Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) after defeating two other senior lawyers in the association’s 2026 national election.
Despite internal disagreements and an earlier cyberattack that disrupted the voting process, Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes (47.18%) to emerge victorious.
Announcing the results at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), Aham Ejelam (SAN), said Lateef Akangbe (SAN) came second with 7,934 votes (30.39%), while Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) polled 5,855 votes (22.43%). A total of 26,106 valid votes were recorded.
Badejo-Okusanya will succeed Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) and serve as NBA President for a two-year term (2026–2028).
However, presidential candidate Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) rejected the credibility of the election, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities. He claimed his name was altered on the ballot from “Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro SAN” to “Aare Oluwatoyin Muyiwa Akinboro SAN,” arguing that the error undermined his participation in the poll.
