Suspected bandits have abducted a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, after attacking his residence in Bunza Local Government Area, prompting an intensive rescue operation by security agencies.
The judge was reportedly kidnapped around midnight on Sunday shortly after returning from Sokoto. Eyewitnesses said the armed men stormed his home, fired sporadically to scare residents, and whisked him away without causing harm to other members of his household.
Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command said tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Umar Muhammad Hadejia, to track down the kidnappers and secure the judge’s safe release.
Police spokesperson, Bashir Usman, assured residents that officers were combing identified locations, including nearby forests, in an effort to rescue the judge alive and unharmed.
The abduction has drawn concern within the judiciary, with officials describing the incident as a troubling development that underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of the country.
