Bird strike disrupts Air Peace Lagos–Port Harcourt flight

Air Peace has confirmed that its Lagos–Port Harcourt flight was disrupted on Thursday following a bird strike upon arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

In a statement, the airline said the incident prompted immediate safety inspections on the affected aircraft, while another aircraft was deployed to transport passengers on subsequent flights.

The airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, noting that efforts were being made to reduce disruptions.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, reiterated that bird strikes remain a major operational challenge for airlines, often resulting in costly repairs and significant schedule disruptions.

He noted that even a single bird strike could ground an aircraft for weeks, adding that Air Peace recorded 49 bird strike incidents across Nigeria between January and September 2025.
