Grammy-winning Nigerian music star Burna Boy has set a new Spotify record, becoming the African artist with the highest monthly listeners in the platform’s history after reaching an impressive 46.84 million monthly listeners.
The achievement sees Burna Boy surpass South African singer Tyla, whose previous record stood at 46.58 millionmonthly listeners.
The record-breaking feat has been largely driven by the global success of “Dai Dai,” Burna Boy’s collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira. The song, which serves as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, gained massive international attention following its performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony, propelling it to the top of streaming platforms and music charts worldwide.
Before the World Cup anthem’s success, Burna Boy’s biggest Spotify hit was “Last Last,” which continues to rank among his most-streamed songs with nearly 600 million streams.
The latest milestone comes ahead of the release of Burna Boy’s forthcoming studio album and his highly anticipated “Unity Tour,” scheduled to kick off later this year.
Thanks to the popularity of “Dai Dai,” the song has climbed major European music charts, reaching:

Burna Boy now leads Africa’s Spotify rankings, ahead of Tems, who has 40.64 million monthly listeners, while Ayra Starr and Rema continue to enjoy strong global streaming numbers, with Rema recording 29.43 million monthly listeners.
Globally, Bruno Mars remains the artist with the highest historical peak on Spotify at 133.6 million monthly listeners, followed by Justin Bieber (128.4 million), The Weeknd (113.9 million), Rihanna (110.3 million), and Michael Jackson (109.6 million).
