The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has directed all registered companies in Nigeria to update their official letterheads to comply with statutory requirements before August 1, 2026, warning that organisations that fail to comply will face sanctions.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the commission said the directive is based on the provisions of Sections 304(1), 304(2), and 729(1)(c) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, which apply to all companies registered under the Act and any previous legislation it replaced.
According to the CAC, companies are required to include specific details on their official business letters, including the current forename or initials and surname of every director.
The requirements also cover the inclusion of any former names of directors where applicable, as well as the nationality of directors who are not Nigerian citizens.
The commission further stated that all official company correspondence must clearly display the registered name of the company, registration number and registered office address in a legible format.
The CAC announced that full enforcement of the requirements will commence on August 1, 2026, adding that companies found in breach of the provisions will be penalised in accordance with the law.
The commission advised businesses to immediately review their letterheads, invoices and other official documents to ensure compliance ahead of the enforcement date.
It explained that the measure is aimed at improving corporate transparency by ensuring that companies provide accurate information about their directors and corporate identity in official communications.
The CAC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, transparency and improved service delivery as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s corporate regulatory framework.
