A five-member delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has begun inspecting facilities in Abuja and Lagos ahead of Nigeria’s hosting of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards.
The inspection follows the Federal Government’s approval for Nigeria to host the two flagship CAF events after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu endorsed the proposal at the request of CAF President Patrice Motsepe during the Africa Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
The delegation, led by CAF’s Head of Safety and Security, Dr. Christian Emeruwa, includes officials responsible for technology, travel and accommodation, transport, and branding.
The team inspected the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja before scheduled visits to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which is proposed to host the CAF Congress, and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
The inspection will continue in Lagos, where officials will assess the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, designated to host the CAF Awards, alongside the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and EKO Hotel & Suites.
Nigeria has previously hosted the CAF Congress in 1980 and 2009, while the CAF Awards were staged in Lagos in 2015 and Abuja in 2017.
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are accompanying the CAF delegation throughout the inspection as preparations gather momentum for the successful hosting of both continental events.
