CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has praised the performances of Africa’s national teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the continent’s campaign as a historic milestone and a reflection of the growing strength of African football.
Motsepe noted that nine of the 10 African teams qualified from the group stage to the Round of 32—the highest qualification rate ever recorded by African nations at a FIFA World Cup. The continent’s representatives included Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
He singled out Morocco for reaching the quarter-finals for a second consecutive World Cup, while Egypt advanced to the Round of 16, and also applauded the performances of the other African teams.
To build on the success, Motsepe announced that CAF will organise a conference involving coaches, technical experts, former players and other stakeholders to assess Africa’s World Cup campaign and develop strategies for an even stronger outing at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
He also reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to investing in youth development, coaching, domestic leagues and football infrastructure, expressing confidence that an African nation will one day win the FIFA World Cup.
