Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £117 million, making him the most expensive British player in history.
The 23-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract with the Stamford Bridge club until 2033, after successfully completing his medical following his return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Expressing his excitement, Rogers described Chelsea as the biggest club in London and said he was eager to be part of the team’s ambitious project under new manager Xabi Alonso.
The transfer surpasses the previous British transfer record of £116 million, set earlier this month when Manchester City signed Elliot Anderson, and also becomes the most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history, eclipsing the £107 million paid for Enzo Fernández in 2023.
Rogers leaves Aston Villa after scoring 21 Premier League goals in 85 appearances and playing a key role in the club’s recent success, including their Europa League triumph.
Chelsea’s acquisition is seen as a major statement of intent as the Blues continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season despite missing out on UEFA Champions League football.
