Chelsea held off a spirited Brighton comeback to secure a 4-3 victory at Stamford Bridge and maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season under manager Xabi Alonso.
Roméo Lavia, Pedro Neto and João Pedro put Chelsea three goals ahead inside 32 minutes, but Brighton fought back through Malick Yalcouyé and a João Pedro own goal.
Cole Palmer restored Chelsea’s two-goal advantage with 16 minutes remaining, before Pascal Groß pulled another goal back deep into added time.
The result gives Alonso two league wins from two games, although Chelsea’s defensive frailties remain a concern ahead of next weekend’s trip to Arsenal.
