Nigeria’s sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has secured a place in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after an impressive semifinal performance.
The former world champion dominated the opening semifinal, crossing the finish line in a remarkable 12.19 seconds to qualify comfortably for the final and reinforce her status as one of the leading contenders for the gold medal.
Amusan finished well ahead of Marione Fourie of South Africa, who posted 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill claimed third place in 12.69 seconds.
Although Amusan’s time is the fastest ever recorded in the event at the Commonwealth Games, it will not stand as an official Games record because it was aided by a +3.8m/s tailwind, exceeding the maximum legal limit of +2.0m/s for record recognition.
The Nigerian star looked in complete control throughout the race, pulling clear of the field to seal automatic qualification for the final scheduled later on Thursday.
A victory in the final would see Amusan add the Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title to her growing collection of international accolades while boosting Team Nigeria’s medal hopes in Glasgow.
