A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has adjourned the corruption trial involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to June 28, 2026.
The case, filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), includes allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and financial misconduct during his tenure as governor. El-Rufai has consistently denied all charges through his legal representatives.
At Monday’s proceedings, El-Rufai appeared in court around 9:30 a.m. alongside ICPC officials, as well as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force. The court was expected to continue hearing motions and arguments from both the prosecution and defence.
However, the session was adjourned due to the absence of two co-defendants standing trial alongside the former governor.
Earlier proceedings in the case have focused on bail applications and related legal arguments. On April 14, 2026, Justice Rilwan Aikawa granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of ₦200 million with conditions, including two sureties—one a senior civil servant and the other a recognised traditional ruler.
Although his legal team has sought a variation of the bail conditions, a separate Kaduna State High Court reportedly declined a similar bail request in a related matter, citing concerns over possible interference with investigations.
The trial is expected to continue at the next adjourned date.
