Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has debunked reports that gunmen attacked the convoy of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Osogbo.
Reports had earlier circulated on Wednesday claiming that gunmen attacked the governor’s convoy shortly after his visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.
The reported incident was said to have triggered an exchange of gunfire between the suspected attackers and security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy.
However, Davido has now dismissed the report, urging members of the public to disregard the claim.
The singer’s denial comes amid heightened public attention following the Osun State governorship election and Governor Adeleke’s recent receipt of his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Adeleke was at the Ataoja’s palace after receiving the certificate, with reports indicating that he met with the traditional ruler during the visit.
The conflicting reports have generated concerns among residents and followers of the governor, while the denial from Davido has sought to clarify the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no independent confirmation of the alleged attack from the Osun State Government or security agencies.
