WAYANAD, INDIA — At least five people have been confirmed dead after torrential rainfall triggered a major landslide in Wayanad district of Kerala, southern India.
Authorities said a large-scale search and rescue operation is underway amid fears that several people may still be trapped beneath the debris.
Emergency responders, including disaster management teams and local authorities, have been deployed to the affected area to search for survivors and provide relief to residents impacted by the disaster.
Officials also confirmed that at least seven people sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
Heavy rainfall has continued to batter parts of Kerala, raising concerns over further landslides and flooding in vulnerable communities. Authorities have urged residents in high-risk areas to remain alert and follow evacuation directives where necessary.
The full extent of the damage is still being assessed as rescue efforts continue.
