The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has taken its campaign against domestic and sexual violence to Lagos Island as part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
The Agency held an advocacy walk on Friday, September 11, 2026, to raise public awareness, encourage reporting and strengthen collective action against domestic and sexual violence. The walk was flagged off by Hon. Lara Oyekan Olumegbon, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island, who called for sustained advocacy, community participation and collective responsibility in tackling violence.
Olumegbon urged residents to speak up, report cases and support initiatives aimed at protecting survivors, stressing that government, communities, families and individuals all have important roles to play in ending domestic and sexual violence. She was joined by Hon. Nurudeen Yunus Abiodun, APC candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Constituency II.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District IV, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, highlighted the critical role of the health sector in responding to cases of domestic and sexual violence, stressing the need for survivors to receive timely, compassionate and appropriate care. The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the Agency would continue to take messages of prevention and zero tolerance for violence directly to communities while encouraging victims and survivors to speak up and seek support.
The walk commenced at SURA Primary Health Centre and ended at the Lagos Island Local Government, where participants were received by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan. Government officials, stakeholders, advocates, community members and other participants marched through the community, promoting prevention, reporting and survivor support. The initiative further reinforced the Lagos State Government’s commitment to sustained awareness, prevention and coordinated action towards ending domestic and sexual violence.
