The Edo State House of Assembly has directed the chairmen of the state’s 18 local government councils to submit payment schedules for members of the Edo State Security Network on or before July 24, 2026, in a bid to resolve the lingering dispute over the payment of their stipends.
The directive was issued during Tuesday’s plenary through the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, explained that the Assembly’s intervention is aimed at verifying payment records and ensuring transparency, accountability, and industrial harmony, rather than targeting any local government authority.
In a separate resolution, lawmakers directed the Edo State Local Government Service Commission to reinstate Ogbemudia Osemwengie Friday into the local government service and pay all outstanding salaries, allowances, and entitlements after the House found that he was prematurely retired before reaching the statutory retirement age.
The Assembly also passed the Edo State Revenue Harmonisation Bill into law, establishing a unified Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account for the collection, management, and accounting of all state revenues.
The new legislation is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficient cash management by abolishing separate revenue accounts previously operated by ministries, departments, agencies, and parastatals.
The House subsequently adjourned plenary until Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for further legislative business.
