The Lagos State Education District II has successfully hosted the 2026 Festival of Music, Talent Hunt and Debate Competition, bringing together students from schools across the district to showcase their intellectual and creative abilities.
The event, themed “Sustainable Panacea to Cultism Among Youths,” was organised to identify and nurture young talents while promoting discipline, healthy competition and positive values among students.
Speaking at the event, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mr. Omotayo Layemo Sanni, reaffirmed the district’s commitment to providing platforms that empower students and encourage responsible citizenship. He noted that engaging young people through academics, arts and culture remains an effective strategy for combating cultism and other social vices.
Students entertained the audience with a variety of cultural and contemporary performances, including ballet, the indigenous Fishermen Dance, Atilogu Dance, drama, songs and Ewi recitations.
Among the winners, Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School emerged victorious in the Ballet category, Ayedere Ajibola Junior High School won the Fishermen Dance, Eva Adelaja Girls Senior Secondary School claimed the Atilogu Dance title, Luwasa Senior High School won the Drama category, Maya Community Junior Grammar School topped the Song category, while Lanre Awolokun Senior High School emerged winner in the Ewi rendition.
The debate competition also showcased students’ critical thinking and public speaking skills. In the junior category, Ayedere Ajibola Junior High School finished first, followed by Igbobi Junior High School and Government Junior Model College. In the senior category, Oriwu Senior Model College emerged overall winner, with Ajegunle Senior High School and Jagunmolu Girls Senior Grammar School placing second and third respectively.
Mr. Sanni congratulated the participating schools, students, teachers and coaches for their dedication and outstanding performances. He reaffirmed the district’s commitment to promoting programmes that foster excellence in academics, arts, culture and leadership while equipping students with the skills and values needed to become responsible and productive citizens.
