The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for deploying technology and digital innovations to combat fraudulent activities and improve the efficiency of its operations.
Alausa gave the commendation when the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. The minister praised the leadership of the scheme for introducing technological solutions into the registration and deployment of corps members, describing the development as a major transformation.
The minister recalled that the NYSC’s adoption of technology initially faced resistance from some members of the public but noted that the digitisation of its processes had significantly improved registration, deployment and overall operations. He particularly commended the scheme for using technology to ensure a more seamless process for prospective corps members.
Nafiu told the minister that the NYSC had also strengthened the security features of corps members’ call-up and posting letters following attempts by fraudsters to clone the documents and issue fake letters to unsuspecting employers and prospective corps members.
According to the NYSC Director-General, the enhanced security measures have made the documents more difficult to manipulate, while employers can now verify their authenticity more easily. He added that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been established to strengthen collaboration between both institutions.
Nafiu said the committee would also work to ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates are admitted into the National Youth Service Corps, further supporting the integrity and credibility of the scheme.
