The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 members of its workforce for alleged corruption and financial malpractice over the past three years, as the anti-graft agency intensifies efforts to enforce accountability within its ranks.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a briefing on the commission’s performance under his leadership. He said more than five of the affected employees are currently facing prosecution, while case files involving others are being prepared for possible legal action.
Olukoyede said the dismissals formed part of efforts to ensure that officers responsible for investigating financial crimes are themselves held to high standards of integrity and professionalism. He stressed that the commission would not shield personnel found to have compromised their positions or engaged in financial misconduct.
The EFCC chairman maintained that internal accountability remained essential to strengthening public confidence in the commission and its anti-corruption mandate. He reiterated that the agency would continue to take disciplinary and legal action against personnel found culpable of wrongdoing.
