The stage is set for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, as electoral and security authorities conclude preparations for the exercise.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed readiness for the poll, assuring residents that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
Ekiti Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, disclosed that both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have been distributed across the state. He added that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) are fully prepared for deployment to ensure transparency and credibility throughout the electoral process.
Security agencies have also stepped up efforts ahead of the election, deploying personnel across the state’s 16 local government areas to maintain peace and order. As part of the security measures, restrictions on vehicular movement will be enforced from midnight until 6:00 p.m. on election day.
Meanwhile, civil society organisations have urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and refrain from vote-buying, voter intimidation, and the spread of misinformation.
More than one million registered voters are expected to participate in the election, making it a closely watched contest with significant implications for the political future of Ekiti State.
