The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, says Lagos is ready to host the inaugural National Intermediate Games, EKO 2026, describing the event as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s sporting potential and discover emerging talents.
Olopade commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for their commitment to sports development and youth empowerment, noting the state’s preparations have demonstrated its capacity to successfully host the Games.
He stressed the importance of using the competition to identify young athletes, particularly from secondary schools, and urged stakeholders to lay a strong foundation for the Games to become a major national sporting event.
EKO 2026 is scheduled for October 1–15, 2026, and is expected to attract over 14,000 young athletes from across Nigeria.
