The fourth batch of Nigerians voluntarily evacuated from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks has safely arrived in the country.
The Air Peace aircraft carrying 271 returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday, marking another phase of the Federal Government’s ongoing evacuation exercise.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier announced that the flight departed Johannesburg at midnight on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Friday, July 3, 2026.
The evacuation programme was initiated to assist Nigerians who opted to return home amid rising concerns over xenophobic violence in South Africa.
So far, the Federal Government has successfully evacuated 864 Nigerians across four batches. The first batch brought home 258 evacuees on June 9, followed by 66 in the second batch, 269 in the third, and 271 in the latest operation.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad while continuing to monitor developments in South Africa.
