The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured travellers of enhanced preventive measures across international airports following renewed concerns over Ebola Virus Disease outbreaks in parts of Central Africa.
In collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, and other relevant agencies, FAAN said it has intensified passenger screening, surveillance, and emergency response protocols at all entry points.
The agency noted that passengers arriving from high-risk regions are being closely monitored, with any suspected cases subjected to immediate isolation and secondary health checks in line with international health standards.
FAAN further emphasized that there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, but assured the public that airport health systems remain on high alert.
The development follows the World Health Organization’s declaration of a public health emergency over the Bundibugyo strain outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Health experts have also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, noting that the strain has no confirmed vaccine or specific treatment, with management largely dependent on early detection and supportive care.
Common symptoms include fever, weakness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases bleeding.
Authorities continue to call for caution while strengthening preventive measures to avoid importation of the disease into Nigeria.
