The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended 116 individuals in a series of coordinated anti-drug raids across Abuja.
The operations, conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Section between August 1 and August 21, 2025, focused on known hotspots in areas such as Asokoro, Trademore, Mapape, Kurudu, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Jikwoyi, Utako, Life Camp, Zuba, and Karshi.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, officers recovered various illicit substances, including hard drugs and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
Adeh stated that after thorough screening, 89 of the suspects were released, while the remaining individuals were charged in court for offences including public nuisance and possession of illegal drugs.
The statement read in part:
“As part of continued efforts to eliminate illicit drug activities and associated crimes in the FCT, operatives of the Anti-Narcotics Section conducted multiple coordinated raids across identified black spots from August 1 to date.
“The operations resulted in the arrest of 116 suspects, with exhibits recovered, including hard drugs and substances suspected to be cannabis. Following detailed screening, 89 individuals were released, while others were charged for various drug-related offences.”
Adeh also noted that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, praised the operatives’ efforts and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to maintaining a secure and drug-free environment. He urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement, stay law-abiding, and avoid drug abuse and trafficking.
