FCT Police rescue five kidnap victims, neutralise two suspects in Abuja operation

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued five kidnapped victims following a coordinated security operation in the Byazhin area of Abuja.

The operation was launched in response to recent kidnapping incidents reported in the Paze community of Byazhin, which had raised concerns among residents and security authorities.

According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, the rescue mission was personally led by him and involved operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command. The operation also received support from local hunters and vigilante groups.

CP Sanusi disclosed that the joint security team carried out an intensive search-and-clearance exercise across the Paze and Byazhin communities, targeting suspected criminal hideouts and escape routes.

During the operation, security personnel engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. The confrontation led to the neutralisation of two suspected kidnappers, while two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were arrested.

The Commissioner further revealed that several members of the criminal gang escaped into nearby hills with varying degrees of gunshot wounds sustained during the exchange of fire.

He called on healthcare practitioners, private hospitals, and public medical facilities to immediately notify security agencies if any individual presents with gunshot injuries or seeks treatment under suspicious circumstances.

CP Sanusi also appealed to residents of the Federal Capital Territory to provide credible information that could assist law enforcement agencies in locating and apprehending the fleeing suspects.

The police reiterated their commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the FCT, assuring residents that ongoing security operations would continue to target criminal elements threatening public safety.
