The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other agencies, has launched a sustained enforcement operation against traffic violations across Abuja.
The exercise targets motorists who disobey traffic lights, drive against traffic, use restricted routes, park illegally, overload vehicles and obstruct major roads and junctions.
The FCTA Transportation Secretariat said a special task force would patrol strategic locations and arrest offenders, who will face sanctions under relevant traffic regulations.
FRSC FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, said persistent violations were contributing to congestion and endangering road users.
He added that offenders involved in applicable violations, including dangerous driving and excessive overloading, could be required to undergo medical and psychological evaluation before prosecution.
The authorities urged motorists to obey traffic signs, use designated routes and parking areas, and make road safety a personal responsibility.
