The Federal Government has commenced the mass trial of individuals accused of terrorism-related offences at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The proceedings, which were previously held in Kainji, Niger State, have now been relocated to the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. The trial is being conducted across multiple courtrooms simultaneously and is expected to last for four days.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, is leading the prosecution, while the defence team is being coordinated by the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar.
A number of judges, including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan, are presiding over different cases as part of the coordinated trial process.
At least 58 suspected terrorists were scheduled to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite alone on Monday, as the government continues its prosecution of terrorism-related cases.
