The Federal Government has expressed concern over the repeated misuse of President Bola Tinubu’s official title by some organisations and media outlets, urging stricter adherence to the correct appellation in public communications.
The clarification was made by George Akume through a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.
According to the statement, the government’s reaction followed an error observed in a national newspaper publication on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
Akume stated that the correct official appellation of the President is:
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He urged media organisations and members of the public to verify official titles before publication to avoid what he described as embarrassing and avoidable errors in print and online reports.
The SGF also advised that such verifications can be made through official government communication channels, including social media platforms and official email contacts.
