The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora, urging citizens to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, service and mutual respect associated with the life and teachings of the Prophet.
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and national cohesion, while encouraging peaceful and responsible celebrations.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and promoting peace across the country.
