The Federal Government has unveiled a Digital Standards Platform designed to strengthen Nigeria’s quality infrastructure, improve access to industrial standards, enhance public procurement, and boost the competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, described the initiative as a landmark reform that will accelerate industrialisation, improve the ease of doing business, and support the implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Nigeria First Policy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The platform, developed through a partnership between the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and Goringo Consult Limited, will digitise access to Nigerian Industrial Standards, certification services, and compliance tools, making quality verification easier for manufacturers, businesses, procurement officers, and consumers.
A major highlight of the initiative is the introduction of the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) Attestation Certificate as a mandatory bid document for all Federal Government procurement involving goods, works, and services where Nigerian Industrial Standards apply.
Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, said the platform would help consumers verify the certification status of products, identify genuine SON-certified manufacturers, and reduce the circulation of counterfeit and substandard goods. He added that users would also gain affordable access to internationally recognised standards at discounted rates through SON’s licensing arrangements.
According to Okeke, the platform will lower the cost of compliance for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, enabling them to formalise operations, obtain certification, and compete in both local and international markets.
Also speaking, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, said the platform would transform government procurement by integrating quality standards into purchasing processes. He disclosed that Nigerian Industrial Standards would soon be embedded into the Bureau’s e-Marketplace, allowing ministries, departments, and agencies to source verified Made-in-Nigeria products with greater confidence.
The Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Jobson Ewalefoh, described the initiative as one of the first Public-Private Partnership projects delivered under the commission’s revised PPP guidelines, commending Goringo Consult Limited for successfully delivering the project.
