The Federal Government is making fresh arrangements to evacuate another batch of stranded Nigerians from South Africa as concerns grow over the June 30 deadline issued by anti-immigration groups targeting undocumented foreign nationals.
More than 300 Nigerians have already returned home through two evacuation flights—268 sponsored by the Federal Government and another 66 through a privately funded intervention.
The ultimatum by anti-immigration vigilante groups has heightened fears of possible xenophobic attacks, prompting several African countries to begin evacuating their citizens. South African authorities have, however, condemned the threats and deployed security personnel across the country to prevent unrest.
Presidency sources confirmed that the Federal Government is processing another evacuation flight, with efforts currently focused on resolving the financial and logistical arrangements needed to complete the operation.
Officials also dismissed reports circulating online about scheduled evacuation flights, stressing that only government-approved announcements should be considered credible.
According to one source, the government has already requested an additional flight and is working to finalise funding, noting that the initial evacuation plan targeted about 300 Nigerians in coordination with the airline.
