The Federal Government on Tuesday met with officials of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in a move aimed at averting the association’s planned nationwide strike.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and was chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In attendance were the Minister of Labour, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Finance, as well as representatives of relevant government agencies and medical bodies.
Speaking after the meeting, NARD President, Dr. Mohammed Suleman, expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to a positive outcome.
He stated that the major issues in dispute had been resolved in principle, while clear timelines were agreed upon for their implementation.
The development has raised hopes that both parties may reach a final agreement and prevent the planned industrial action, which could have affected healthcare services across the country.
