The Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts across Nigeria to dismiss any student found guilty of kidnapping or related criminal activities after due investigation.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said tertiary institutions must strengthen internal intelligence systems and work closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to improve campus security.
He stressed that institutions must not become safe havens for criminal elements and reaffirmed the government’s policy against negotiating with or paying ransom to kidnappers.
The minister also announced that TETFund’s 2027 intervention programme will support security infrastructure projects, including perimeter fencing, while the Energising Education Programme will be expanded to improve power supply in tertiary institutions.
