The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Liberia through enhanced political consultations, increased trade and investment, youth development, and deeper regional cooperation.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, made the pledge while receiving Liberia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ethel Davis, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
Enikanolaiye described the Nigeria-Liberia relationship as one built on shared history, African solidarity and mutual respect, recalling Nigeria’s role in restoring peace and stability in Liberia.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation, identify new areas of partnership and advance the welfare, prosperity and security of both countries.
Ambassador Davis expressed Liberia’s appreciation for Nigeria’s continued support in peacebuilding, security sector reform, post-conflict reconstruction and the training of personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
She also outlined plans for Liberia’s proposed Investment Summit in Lagos, aimed at attracting Nigerian investors and expanding trade and commercial partnerships between both countries.
The Liberian deputy minister identified youth unemployment as a major development challenge and called for stronger collaboration with Nigeria’s private sector to create jobs and promote inclusive economic growth.
In response, Enikanolaiye reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to encouraging greater private sector investment in Liberia and highlighted opportunities for collaboration in fintech, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, culture and the creative economy.
He expressed confidence that the upcoming Liberia Investment Summit in Lagos would provide a platform to strengthen business partnerships and unlock new investment opportunities.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation through sustained political dialogue, increased trade and investment, human capital development, and closer collaboration within ECOWAS and other regional organisations.
