The Federal Government has suspended its proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 WAEC and NECO Senior School Certificate Examinations following concerns from parents, students, and education stakeholders.
The Ministry of Education withdrew the June 18, 2026 notice announcing the adjustment, stating that the decision was made to allow for wider consultations and a fresh review of the proposal.
The proposed fee increase would have moved examination registration costs from N27,500 to N50,000, an 82% rise. The government said the review was initially considered due to rising costs in logistics, security, printing, technology, and other examination-related operations.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has directed that the proposal be put on hold until consultations with relevant stakeholders are concluded.
