FIFA has imposed a total of 19 match suspensions on three Argentina players and a team official over their involvement in the post-match brawl that followed Argentina’s 1–0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes received the heaviest punishment with a 10-match ban, while Nahuel Molina was suspended for seven matches. Thiago Almada received a one-match ban, while team official Roberto Ayala was handed a three-match suspension.
Spain’s Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, popularly known as Gavi, was also handed a one-match ban for his involvement in the incident.
Paredes and Molina were each fined $90,000, while Gavi, Almada and Ayala received fines of $30,000 each.
FIFA also fined the Argentine Football Association $321,000 and ordered a 50 per cent stadium closure for Argentina’s next two home international matches. The sanctions followed allegations involving misconduct, discrimination, racial abuse and breaches of match security.
The disciplinary decisions are subject to appeal and will become binding after 10 days if no appeal is lodged.
