FIFA has opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse directed at popular streamer IShowSpeed during a 2026 World Cup match between Argentina and Cape Verde.

The football governing body said it became aware of an incident involving the streamer and a supporter at Miami Stadium during the July 3 fixture and immediately commenced investigations.

IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, has more than 57 million YouTube subscribers and has been attending and streaming World Cup matches through a special partnership involving FIFA, YouTube and broadcaster Fox Sports.

FIFA condemned all forms of racism, hate and discrimination, stressing that such behaviour has no place in football or society.

The streamer was also reportedly subjected to further racist abuse during Tuesday’s World Cup encounter between Argentina and Egypt, where an Argentine supporter allegedly made a monkey gesture during an interaction with him.
