A fire outbreak has damaged the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos.
The incident occurred on Monday at about 10:23 a.m., reportedly following an electrical surge in the conference room, before spreading to other sections of the building.
Officers on duty reportedly made efforts to contain the fire before personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 10:45 a.m.
The Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Timothy Jonah, who had just resumed at the command, described the incident as unfortunate.
Jonah said a committee would be constituted to investigate the cause of the fire, while measures would be taken to strengthen safety protocols and prevent a recurrence.
He also commended the officers and firefighters for their swift response to the incident.
