A fire outbreak has destroyed 17 shops at Sabo Market in Ikorodu, Lagos, after a suspected electrical surge triggered an overnight blaze in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the fire, which started at about 1:10 a.m., was swiftly brought under control through a joint response by its Tiger Squad and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.
According to the agency, the inferno consumed provisions, groceries, foodstuffs, and other valuable goods, but no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded. LASEMA has urged traders and market leaders to prioritise electrical safety by ensuring proper wiring, avoiding overloaded circuits, and carrying out regular inspections of electrical installations.
