More than 76 temporary shelters belonging to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were destroyed by a fire outbreak in Ngamma village, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, in Northeast Nigeria.
The affected residents are mostly IDPs from Borno State who had been taking refuge in the community.
Acting on the directive of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, officials of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) swiftly visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage.
Preliminary reports indicated that one person was hospitalised, while at least one household was completely razed by the inferno. The fire also consumed livestock and large quantities of foodstuffs, worsening the hardship faced by the already vulnerable families.
Eyewitnesses and victims narrated their ordeal in tears, calling for urgent humanitarian intervention and support.
