Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned 10 newly completed intra-city road projects in Makurdi, Benue State, describing them as clear evidence of the practical implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through investments that directly impact citizens’ lives.
The projects, spanning approximately 11.5 kilometres, were executed under the Phase I Urban Renewal Programme of the Benue State Government led by Hyacinth Alia.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, the First Lady expressed satisfaction with the pace of development and infrastructure renewal in the state, noting that the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to sustainable growth and improved living standards.
She commended Governor Alia for his leadership and dedication to delivering meaningful development to the people of Benue State.
According to Mrs Tinubu, the newly completed roads—including the Shire Bakut Road dual carriageway, Abu Ken Shulua Road, Mama Batteren Road, Alia Street, Dabo Plaza Road, Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Uppo Street, Tega Bar Street, Giotto Aca Road, and the connecting Spa Road—will boost economic activities, improve mobility, strengthen security, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
“These roads are pathways to economic growth. They will improve mobility, enhance security, and ensure a better quality of life for the people of Makurdi and beyond,” she stated.
The First Lady urged residents to support government development initiatives by taking ownership of public infrastructure and ensuring its proper maintenance.
Earlier, Governor Alia said the projects would improve accessibility, reduce travel time, and strengthen connectivity within the Makurdi metropolis.
Following the road commissioning, Mrs Tinubu proceeded to Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area, where she inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed Community ICT Training Centre facilitated by National Information Technology Development Agency in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Addressing residents, the First Lady said the ICT centre was established to accelerate economic diversification through industrialisation and digital innovation.
She highlighted the critical role of technology in empowering communities, particularly women and young people, by creating opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, employment, and participation in the global digital economy.
As part of her visit, Mrs Tinubu also empowered 1,000 women traders in the state, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment and inclusive national development.
