Five passengers were believed to have suffered burns after a laptop caught fire during an American Airlines flight carrying more than 130 passengers from Atlanta, Georgia, to Dallas, Texas.
The pilot reported a “cabin fire” toward the back of the aircraft, according to air traffic control audio obtained by CBS News.
The pilot reportedly told air traffic controllers that about four to five passengers had been burned by the laptop, which was contained around the middle of the aircraft.
Flight attendants quickly responded and used a thermal containment bag to contain the fire, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
American Airlines said Flight 2398 landed safely at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport after smoke was reported from a passenger’s device during landing. The airline praised the crew for their swift and professional response.
The FAA said the flight landed at about 6:55 p.m. after the crew reported a laptop battery fire on board and confirmed that it is investigating the incident.
