A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday morning along Sultan Road in Kano metropolis, trapping four people beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and workers at the construction site.
Rescue efforts were immediately launched, with emergency responders successfully pulling three victims from the debris. The rescued victims were taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment after sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
As of the time of filing this report, rescue teams were still working to free a fourth victim believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers noticed signs that the building had become unstable while working on the upper floor. The supervising engineer reportedly ordered an immediate evacuation, allowing several workers to escape moments before the structure gave way.
However, four people, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, were trapped when the building collapsed.
A construction worker, Shu’aibu Yaro, confirmed that the supervising engineer detected signs of structural failure and instructed workers to vacate the building before the incident occurred.
Emergency responders remained at the scene as search and rescue operations continued to locate the remaining trapped victim and determine the cause of the collapse.
