The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has clarified that a recent Federal High Court judgment in Kano did not strip the agency of its statutory powers to operate on federal highways in the state.
In a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer, CRC Abdullahi Aliyu Labaran, the command dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the ruling barred the FRSC from carrying out its duties on federal roads.
The corps explained that its powers are derived from the FRSC (Establishment) Act, 2007, which mandates it to enforce traffic regulations, prevent road crashes, rescue accident victims, and ensure the safety of road users on federal highways nationwide.
The command also warned against social media posts encouraging motorists to confront or disregard FRSC personnel, describing such actions as capable of undermining public order and endangering both road users and law enforcement officers.
According to the statement, the FRSC has identified procedural concerns in the court proceedings and has commenced legal steps to challenge the judgment through the appellate process.
The corps assured the public that it would continue to carry out its statutory responsibilities professionally while respecting the rights of road users, urging motorists to cooperate with duly identified FRSC officials and disregard misleading interpretations of the court ruling.
