The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has inducted 200 new Special Marshals in Abia State, charging them to uphold discipline, patriotism and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the induction ceremony at the FRSC Sector Headquarters in Umuahia on Tuesday, the Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, congratulated the inductees and commended their decision to volunteer for the Special Marshals scheme.
Ezeoma described their enlistment as a demonstration of commitment to promoting safer roads and protecting human lives. She urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism and respect for all road users, stressing that their conduct must reflect the values and objectives of the Corps.
The Sector Commander also encouraged the new marshals to work closely with regular FRSC personnel and support enforcement, public education and other road safety initiatives aimed at reducing road traffic crashes across the state.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, RS 9.3, Abia Sector Command, Ven. Kingsley Wachi, described the Special Marshals as the legally empowered volunteer arm of the FRSC, noting that their reach extends into communities and different sectors of society.
Delivering the keynote address, titled “Discipline, Patriotism and Volunteerism: The Hallmarks of an Effective Special Marshal,” Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu, described the Special Marshal uniform as a symbol of responsibility.
He stressed that while integrity earns respect, discipline gives authority credibility, urging the inductees to remain committed to the ideals of volunteerism and road safety.
