The management and staff of General Hospital Somolu have joined the Lagos State Government’s campaign against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), calling on residents to speak up and act against all forms of abuse.
Speaking during a sensitisation campaign, the hospital’s MD/CEO, Dr. Adesina Ayodele, urged residents to “say something when they see something,” while encouraging healthcare workers to remain vigilant and take decisive action against SGBV.
Ayodele said healthcare professionals often serve as the first point of contact for survivors, stressing the need for confidential, trauma-informed medical and psychosocial support, proper documentation of evidence and collaboration with relevant response agencies to ensure survivors receive justice.
The hospital staff, dressed in purple in support of the “Turn Alausa Purple” initiative, later took the campaign to communities around Somolu, including Olaleye, Oguntolu, Durosinmi and Abolaji Olowosago streets. The 2026 campaign is themed: “SGBV: It Ends With Us.
