Ghana clears $700m Eurobond early, total debt repayments hit $2.1bn since 2025

The Government of Ghana has announced the full and early settlement of its $700 million Eurobond obligation, marking another key milestone in its ongoing debt management programme.

The payment, executed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

According to the ministry, the transaction was made up of $525.2 million in principal repayments and $174.8 million in interest payments, bringing total settlement to $700 million.

Officials noted that this latest repayment raises Ghana’s total Eurobond payments to $2.1 billion since January 2025, in line with the country’s structured Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.

The Finance Ministry explained that the transaction was completed through a pre-arranged financing framework designed to avoid pressure on the nation’s foreign exchange reserves.

Describing the development as a positive fiscal signal, the ministry said the settlement helps reduce Ghana’s outstanding Eurobond exposure, boosts investor confidence, and reflects the government’s commitment to disciplined debt management and macroeconomic stability.

Authorities further assured stakeholders that prudent public financial management practices will continue to guide future repayments, ensuring timely servicing of all debt obligations.

The ministry also expressed appreciation to citizens for their patience and support, noting that public confidence has been crucial to the success of the country’s fiscal reform efforts.
