Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has unveiled the layout plan for a proposed 500-unit housing estate in Kontagora as part of the state’s drive to expand urban infrastructure and increase access to affordable housing.
The 40-hectare project site, owned by the Niger State Government and previously allocated to the Radio Niger Corporation, will be transformed into a modern residential estate after years of encroachment. Governor Bago said the government will provide essential infrastructure before allocating plots to prospective homeowners.
The estate, which will be named after the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Muhammad Barau Mu’azu II, is expected to stimulate economic growth, open up the area for further development, and create more opportunities for residents to own quality homes.
The governor also announced plans to partner with the Renewed Hope Housing Project to ensure the successful delivery of the scheme.
Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Bello Agwara, disclosed that the estate will consist of about 305 residential plots of varying sizes, three commercial plots, and key public amenities, including a neighbourhood centre, shopping mall, children’s playground, clinic, and other supporting infrastructure.
He noted that the development aligns with the Bago administration’s New Niger Agenda, which focuses on sustainable urban planning and improved access to quality housing.
