Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed ₦55.8 million in grants to 1,116 young entrepreneurs in Kano metropolis as part of efforts to promote entrepreneurship, reduce unemployment and improve livelihoods.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony at the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf said each beneficiary received ₦50,000 under the state government’s youth empowerment programme to support the growth of their businesses.
The beneficiaries include petty traders, shoe repairers and other small-scale business owners operating across the metropolis.
Governor Yusuf said the initiative fulfils one of his campaign promises to empower young people through economic opportunities that encourage self-reliance, reduce unemployment and discourage idleness.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing programmes that improve the welfare and economic prospects of residents across the state.
The governor also commended the beneficiaries for remaining committed to legitimate businesses despite prevailing economic challenges, describing them as hardworking, resilient and determined entrepreneurs.
He assured them that the state government would continue to support small and medium-scale enterprises through targeted interventions aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for young people.
Governor Yusuf further appreciated the youths of Kano State for their continued support and confidence in his administration, noting that their encouragement has strengthened the government’s resolve to sustain people-centred policies and development programmes.
He added that more empowerment initiatives would be introduced to broaden access to economic opportunities and improve the livelihoods of more residents across the state.
