The Lagos State Government has inaugurated 44 chairmen of sports associations across the state, charging them to identify young talents early, develop them professionally and create pathways for athletes to compete and succeed at the highest levels.
The new leadership has been urged to strengthen grassroots sports development while promoting transparency, accountability and regular competitions across the various sporting disciplines.
The government also emphasised the need to create greater opportunities for women, girls, persons with disabilities and other emerging talents, noting that sports can provide pathways to education, employment, entrepreneurship and economic growth.
The state government said Lagos has no shortage of sporting talent, stressing that the priority is to build the systems and opportunities needed to transform raw potential into successful athletes and champions.
