Suspected armed hoodlums on Sunday disrupted the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at Oyinlola DC Primary School in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, making away with packs of voter cards.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the distribution centre, fired shots into the air, and caused panic as residents and prospective voters fled for safety before escaping with the PVCs.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command said about 10 armed thugs attacked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the exercise and carted away three packs of PVCs.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and directed a full-scale investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. The command also said tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed to recover the stolen PVCs and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police urged residents with credible information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency lines.
